Browning Receives Rise to the Challenge Award

2024 USGBC Kentucky Local Market Leadership Award for Outstanding Commitment to Advancing Green Building - Velocity 65 Building 3

Murfreesboro, TN – (November 1, 2024) – The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Kentucky has announced Browning Real Estate Partners as a 2024 Local Market Leadership Award recipient at this year’s USGBC Regional Award Ceremony. Browning is one of five honorees from Kentucky and Tennessee recognized for utilizing green building and sustainable practices to improve quality of life in their communities. Browning earned the “Rise to the Challenge Award” for Velocity 65 Building 3, an achievement that underscores the company’s dedication to sustainable development and market transformation in the industrial sector.

Velocity 65 Building 3, a 711,975-square-foot LEED Silver certified facility, is Shepherdsville’s first LEED-certified industrial building, setting a new standard for green development in the region. Despite a challenging leasing environment, the property achieved a significant lease with Arvato, demonstrating its strong market appeal. Its unique status as the only LEED-certified building in the area and its competitive leasing rates made it a standout option.

Browning’s leadership team believes this success underscores the growing demand for green certification and positions them as a leader in sustainable real estate for the Louisville market as they continue to expand geographically and bring other product types to this market.

“The USGBC Local Market Leadership Awards are an opportunity to spotlight commitment and innovation in green building in Kentucky. Browning is showing through action how healthy buildings and communities and sustainable practices improve the quality of life for those around them.”
Ryan Snow
Regional Director of U.S. Market Transformation & Development at the USGBC

Velocity 65 Building 3 features advanced logistics and sustainable technologies that establish new benchmarks for environmental performance. The project prioritizes energy and operational efficiencies that provide long-term value to its tenants.

“This project is a beacon, inspiring others to adopt sustainable practices, especially in non-traditional sectors like warehousing,” the judges noted, applauding Browning’s commitment to water conservation with a remarkable 99.1% reduction in project water usage.

As a Rise to the Challenge Award winner, Browning is at the forefront of sustainable real estate development in the Louisville, Indianapolis market and beyond, leading by example in transforming Kentucky’s industrial landscape toward a greener future.

LEED is the most widely used and trusted green building rating system in the world with more than 100,00 certified projects worldwide. LEED buildings save money, consume less energy, use less water, use fewer resources and provide better indoor environmental quality than traditional buildings. And pursuing LEED and the strategies the rating system employs, facilitates better product and material choices in a building and helps to drive innovation.

2024 USGBC Kentucky Local Market Leadership Award recipients represent the pinnacle of green building leadership in the state. Nominated projects were reviewed by an esteemed panel of judges from the USGBC community with a variety of technical, market, and sector perspectives and expertise. Projects were judged based on their certification level under LEED or another GBCI system, goals, strategies, synergies, performance, and significance or impact within their local market.
