Internship: Pre-Construction / Estimating Intern

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION

The Preconstruction/Estimating Intern will assist the Estimator and Directors of Pre-Construction to perform pre-construction efforts, including project cost estimating, business development, project scheduling, and bid solicitation.

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work with colleagues and develop a strong network to procure work.
  • Assist in the preparation of competitive cost estimates for internal projects as well as hard bid invitations.
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship with subcontractors and vendors to obtain competitive bids.
  • Attend and help manage design team meetings and issue meeting notes.
  • Assist in the development of conceptual design budgets throughout the design phase for infrastructure, shell and tenant finish projects. Includes the ability to perform detailed take-offs and to assist in the development of a detailed sixteen division cost estimate.
  • Assist in the development of project front-end specifications and bid forms.
  • Assist in the execution of the bid process including: soliciting bids from qualified bidders, preparing bid packages, responding to bidder questions, receiving and evaluating subcontractor bids, running bid scope meetings, preparing bid summaries, and making subcontractor recommendations.
  • Assist in the creation of a construction buyout package to be turned over to the Project Manager including: a list of subcontractors used to create the contract price, preliminary scope packages, a detailed line item estimate, and preliminary construction schedule.
  • Maintain the current bid log.
  • Assist in the preparation and response to Requests For Proposals (RFP).
  • Assist the Project Managers and Director of Field Operations with scope and cost related issues when necessary.
  • Support Project Managers with scheduling and change order pricing when necessary.
  • Review final project cost for variances to original estimate.
  • Assist in the development of strategies with subcontractors for bidding that will generate more competitive bids.
  • Maintain subcontractor relationships so Browning has a strong and reliable group of subcontractors.
  • Maintain a database for current construction pricing trends.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, equivalent specialty degree, or equivalent experience working for a General Contractor or related Specialty Trade Contractor is preferred.
  • Knowledge in building construction, means and methods, scheduling, cost and quality control, and reading of drawings and specifications.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Self-starter and good communicator.
  • Ability to communicate well with owners, design professionals, employees, and subcontractors.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, Microsoft Project, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, WinEx Grade, PlanGrid, and Building Connected.

Staff Accountant

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for the monthly bank reconciliations, financial statement preparation/reporting and accounts receivable processing. The company expects this person to be motivated to develop, advance and grow professionally within Browning.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations
  • Prepare journal entries
  • Compile monthly and/or quarterly financial packages for both internal and external investors
  • Manage billing/invoicing accounts receivable for 60+ entities
  • Process deposits on a daily basis including the posting of receipts
  • Generate monthly delinquency and accounts receivable aging reports
  • Manage, analyze, and audit tenant accounts to ensure correct billing
  • Help Assistant Controller with other duties as needed, including the preparation of monthly draw submissions and ad hoc projects

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting Required

  • Internship experience with accounting specific responsibilities preferred

  • Training in real estate investment software or similar accounting systems a plus

  • Aspirations of obtaining CPA License a plus
