2nd Annual BYF Indiana Girls Construction Camp
The Build Your Future Indiana Girls Construction Camp, organized by BYF Indiana, a project of the Indiana Construction Roundtable Foundation, was a transformative experience for 30 young women. Over the course of 4 days, they engaged in a variety of activities, from building picnic tables to working with electrical kits, and even had the opportunity to visit job sites. The camp culminated in a community event, where the students showcased their accomplishments and participated in hands-on activities with their families.
As the event sponsor, we not only donated to support the event but also toured the campers and councilors at our Vanguard at 16 Tech (a multifamily project) and talked about how the careers they learned about in their “Discover Your Construction Career Path Quiz,” translate into the roles/responsibilities on an active project with our team members present (Developer, Project Coordinator, Project Manager, Field Superintendent, and even a Marketing Professional for A/E/C.) We also talked about some of the industry
After our customary safety talk, Danny, the Field Superintendent from Davis & Associates, talked to campers about the work being done in Building B. They saw framed rooms with utilities visible (proof that construction plumbing is where it’s at… nice and clean!) through different stages of progress, ending in units currently hanging drywall.
Ken, the Field Superintendent from Browning, was able to show Building A from the fourth floor of B to show prep work being done for the next day’s 2 a.m. pour (they didn’t seem keen on those hours either Ken!) and parking structure being wrapped by the multifamily units in that building.
For the Community Event, we hosted a booth for the girls to practice their hammering skills against each other and instructors (don’t worry, we made them use their non-dominant hand to keep things on an even playing field) with some pretty sweet “Nailed It” stickers and hammer keychains for participating.

One of Browning’s Corporate Giving Priority Areas aligns with our core value of “Be Admirable” and is focused on expanding opportunities in construction and commercial real estate. Our industries’ long-term impact is significant, improving the lives of families by building generational wealth and strengthening communities through placemaking and economic development. We are proud to support programs and organizations, like the BYF Indiana Girls Construction Camp, designed to enable all youth to find their place in the construction or commercial real estate fields.
